Help Schoolchildren Learn
Birds are More Beautiful Wild

Send Born Free USA united with API your used or new binoculars to help Indonesian children learn that birds are more beautiful wild.

Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute is teaming up with the Indonesian Parrot Project (IPP) to provide binoculars to Indonesian schoolchildren as part of the educational curriculum provided by IPP to teach Indonesian children the importance of conservation, the cruelty of the wild bird trade, and the benefits of leaving birds in the wild.

This effort is extremely important when considering that 80% of illegally trapped Indonesian birds are traded within Indonesia where birds, especially parrots, are kept as a sign of wealth and prestige. Such birds are typically kept in tiny cages or are chained by the leg to a perch — a sad existence for these highly social and flight-adapted animals.

Putting an end to the internal domestic trade in wild birds will require a change in attitudes toward keeping birds captive coupled with an increased appreciation for birds in the wild.

Indonesia is home to some of the most diverse and beautiful birds in the world; despite this, many Indonesian children have never seen these birds their natural habitat.

Your donation of new or used binoculars will be used to take Indonesian schoolchildren birdwatching to appreciate the beauty of birds living wild and free.
