National Bird Day, January 5, 2007, was a big success. Read all about it.
In addition to the many people who in honor of National Bird Day 2008 displayed National Bird Day posters, write Letters to the Editor, create educational library displays, and host classroom presentations and activities, the following special events took place.
What:
"Gingerbread Homes for Animals" - NYC's Holiday Pastry Exhibit and Benefit for Animals
This fifth annual humane education event is produced by Rational Animal®, NYC's non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness about NYC's at-risk animals. The event is produced with the support of the ASPCA®, PastryScoop.com, The French Culinary Institute, HEART, Avian Welfare Coalition, and Chelsea Market.
The event will include National Bird Day–inspired elements including a gingerbread birdhouse, a "think outside the cage" coloring contest, and a bird puppet show.
ADMISSION IS FREE.

BIRDLAND - Parrots for Life — a parrot rescue and education organization together with the Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Science — is hosting a community celebration honoring birds of all types and local organizations that advocate for them.
Participating groups include Birdland - Parrots for Life, Goose Creek Wildlife Sanctuary, St. Francis Wildlife Association, Big Bend Bird Club, and others. The event will include vendor booths offering bird foods, clothing, décor and toys. Artists and photographers will also display and sell their bird-related works. Plus, Mayor of Tallahassee John Marks will proclaim Tallahassee a permanent part of the National Bird Day Celebration.
