The Red-crowned parrot is an endangered (IUCN Red List) Amazon parrot native to northeastern Mexico. The current native wild population of between 1,000 and 2,000 is decreasing. A primary threat to its survival is the smuggling of birds from Mexico to the United States for the pet trade.
